Great Entertaining Kitchens, Good News on Kitchen Remodeling, Toe Kicks and More!

"Economic conditions aside, we know that the home is the center of our lives and people still care about making their home as valuable, as comfortable and as beautiful as financially possible," says Jerry Caruso, President of Caruso Kitchens. "It’s more important than ever to offer superior service, world-class design and products, and end results that offer guaranteed return on investment."

"I’d like to thank our customers, our suppliers, our partners, and my staff members for their continued support, commitment and dedication to great work. Yes, there were challenges in 2008 for our industry, and there will likely be more obstacles to overcome as we head into the new year, but we also have a lot to be thankful for. Let’s remember that. May God Bless. Happy Holidays."

Kitchens Remain Top Priority For Homeowners

A research study conducted by Better Homes and Gardens magazine earlier this year revealed that kitchens and bathrooms remain at the top of list when it comes to buying or remodeling a home. The study revealed that the top five priorities for people who own a home are:

1. An all-new kitchen “that looks great and is fun to work in.”
2. The right amount and type of customized storage.
3. A master bath and bedroom suite that feels like a luxurious hotel room.
4. Well-designed spaces that can be personalized.
5. A separate and convenient sizeable laundry workroom.

More than half of the home enthusiasts surveyed said they want green building and remodeling options presented to them, as well, the study said.

Another report issued by the Research Institute for Cooking & Kitchen Intelligence (RICKI), a Charlotte-based organization of industry professionals tied to the kitchen remodeling market, found that kitchen renovations continue to be the number one way to add value to a home, and homeowners still spend more on renovating their kitchens than any other room in the house. RICKI reported that although kitchen remodeling projects are down from two years ago, spending levels have remained steady among those who remodeled.

Design Your Kitchen For Entertaining

Your kitchen will no doubt be the gathering place for family and friends this holiday season. Make your space ideal for entertaining guests and fun and functional for preparing meals.

Five must-have design features for a great entertaining kitchen

1. Wine Storage Unit

Keep your wine at its best! Built-in or stand alone wine refrigeration units are wonderful additions to any kitchen. The temperature control features and optimum humidity settings ensure your wine is aged perfectly. There are multiple exterior options, which allows for seamless design integration. You can find wine storage units in many sizes to fit your wine collection, large or small. Having the perfect bottle only an arm’s length away is a luxury you and your guests will enjoy for years to come. After all, well-cared-for wine is the perfect companion to your holiday feast.

2. Warming Drawer

Warming drawers help maintain the quality of a fresh-cooked dish before it’s ready to be served. Moist foods stay moist and crisp foods stay crisp. Warming drawers are almost a necessity if you cook large meals or frequently have guests. As with other appliances, you can customize the front panel and handle hardware to blend the unit perfectly with surrounding cabinetry.

3. Wet Bar

Wet Bars are no longer restricted to the basement. Because the kitchen is the great room for many families, and it’s where most entertaining occurs, it only makes sense to add a place for recreational fun! How you design your wet bar will depend on many factors, including the size of your space, how many friends you plan to host (large groups or intimate gatherings?), types of drinks you plan to serve (are you a beer or martini lover?), and if you plan to use the wet bar for other purposes, (informal eating, playing cards, etc.) Be creative with the design of your wet bar – it can be a useful and enjoyable space for all.

4. Baking Center

There’s nothing like the smell of warm cookies to get the kids (and adults) running inside from the cold. If baking is part of your holiday (or everyday) routine, a baking center could be the perfect gift to yourself. Features of a baking center can include lower counters for working with dough, deep drawers for your baking supplies, and ample shelving or cabinets for flour, sugar, and spices. It’s time to treat yourself to a sweet little space designed just for you.

5. Butler’s Pantry

The traditional location for a butler's pantry is in a short hallway between the kitchen and dining room. This functional space can be an area to store glassware, linens and serving pieces or a place to set out appetizers, drinks, or dessert. How about putting coffee and pastries out for your guests in the morning? Your butler’s pantry is the perfect place. Guests can get their coffee and be part of the morning kitchen activity without feeling like they are interrupting the workflow.
