Race for the Cure Wrap-Up
The Denver Komen Race for the Cure, held October 5 2008, was an inspiring and rewarding
day for the Caruso Kitchens team. It started early – by 6 a.m. the race grounds
were filled with fluffy pink boas, honorary t-shirts, and crazy hats. Thousands
of people filtered by the Caruso Kitchens booth for a chance to win a $400 spa package
and to learn a little more about the Kitchen Makeover Pledge Prize.
The Caruso Kitchens team enjoyed being part of such an important cause. “Due the
number of people, the walk started very slow, but it gave us a chance to look around,
read people’s shirts and really get a feel for how many people are affected by breast
cancer,” said Donna Russell, adding “When they played the Race theme song and the
race began, it was hard not to get choked up. Truly a unique and powerful experience.”
Jerry Caruso spoke at the closing ceremonies, reminding people why they were there
… to raise money for research and to find a cure. Caruso Kitchens donated a kitchen
makeover worth over $50,000 to Denver Komen for the Cure, which includes new cabinets,
countertops, design, installation and labor. Those who pledged $750 or more were
entered to win. Pledging went through the end of October, so we are anxiously waiting
to see who won the Caruso Kitchen’s prize. You can be sure to read more about the
winner in future issues of Caruso Connected.
